The Association for the Study of Literature and the Environment has released a CfP for its upcoming conference on 'Territory: Terra, Terroir, Terror,' which will be held from 22-24 June 2027 at the University of Maryland.

The CfP builds on the IPCC's 2022 identification of colonialism as a driver of climate change, tying questions of land and landscape to affects of terror. As such, it's particularly encouraging proposals regarding genres such as the Gothic, the Dark Sublime, and the Dark Pastoral, amongst other approaches relating terror to terra.

Some virtual panels will be offered some days before the in-person conference. The conference will also operate an innovative seminar-based format, the details of which can be found on the full CfP, linked below.

Proposals for seminars, panels, and individual papers (of up to 300 words) can be submitted through an online platform, accessed through the full CfP, available through this link, until 8 January 2027.
